Summer Events 2011

This June and July, Sebastopol is hosting a series of events under the banner 'Bibliophoria'...a celebration of books. The Sebastopol Center for the Arts will open a juried show of book art on June 16th...Copperfield's Bookstore will have a series of events commemorating 30 years in business starting June 4th, and there are many other events taking place scattered in differing venues and times...particulars are available on the website:
http://bibliophoria.com/
Taken as a whole, it's a commendable effort to position Sebastopol as a place where the various arts of the book are practiced and revered...from reading them to making them.

Some of these events involve Iota Press...
The Bibliophoria Committee held a chapbook contest for Marin & Sonoma poets...and once the winner and runners-up were chosen, I did the printing. The winning poet is Lin Max, who is known for her book art...so designing and printing this book became a collaborative work that was a great pleasure. Her book, "What the Flowers Dream" will be available through my website at: http://www.iotapress.com/index.html, as well as at Copperfield's or Quicksilver Mine Gallery.
The debut reading will be at the Sebastopol Copperfield's: June 10th at 7:00PM.

From June 20-25 there will be an exhibit of Pat Reagh's fine printing legacy at the Sebastopol Library. Pat has helped me immensely in learning letterpress, and from his Sebastopol shop produces books of great beauty and craft. Saturday the 25th, he & I will be in the library gallery during the day to talk about printing, & to answer questions.

On Saturday, July 9th, there will be an all-day class at my shop in printing poems. Each person will typeset their own poem and then we'll bring them together into a small chapbook. As of this mailing, there are still four openings. $120, materials provided.

Monday June 20th, at 7:00PM, I'll be part of a panel with Micah Schwaberow, Elizabeth Herron & Clara Rosemarda.... talking about collaboration between poets & artists. At the Center for the Arts.

On Friday July 15th, I'll be teaching kids a little about printing at the Center for the Arts.

Kind of a flurry, but for a good cause!

Book release

As previously mentioned, Iota printed a newchapbook by the elusive & allusive poet, Erst Weill.

It's called "Could Be Verse" and... it could be.

It can be ordered on line at: http://www.iotapress.com/books/index.html . Paypal or credit card....$10

Don't wait to order...the scandal swirling around this book will make it a collector's item. Rumors fly that Mr Weill did not actually LIVE the poems in the book. He did not, for example, "...crimp a jutty cornwolf in a swedenbitter cold."

Then one of his old allies in the Non-Sequiturian Order appeared on Oprah and accused him of in fact NOT being truly off-the-wall, yelling at one point: "One thought has been proven to have led to another! A disgrace!"

Lastly, Mr Weill has authorized us to say that there is no truth to the other rumor : that he is under investigation for using the outlawed software META4.0 . "Anyway, they're all using it now, all the big names are juicing... quiet as it's kept." But it is just possible that there will always be an asterisk next to the name of Erst Weill.
