Cards

In 2011, I started making card decks in part to have fun with my sons and grandkids. But also I was interested in the form, and went so far as to procure a corner-rounder that could cut a whole deck at one stroke. The first two decks were real playable games, one based on crazy eights (Dingbats), the other on gin rummy(Mars Cards). Then I did some decks that were just groupings of letterforms to be played in any random fashion.. And finally in 2013 I made a deck in which each card was a meditation on an idea of alchemy in type. That a golden element would be caught within a matrix of lead and progress until the last few cards showed the gold liberated. Typoglyphs I called them, and they were exhibited at Codex and other gallery shows. A custom walnut box was their home.
